Excel at the most challenging of applications, including low level PTM analysis, multiplexed relative quantitation using isobaric tags, intact protein characterization, as well as MSn analysis of small molecules with the new Thermo Scientific Orbitrap Fusion Lumos Tribrid Mass Spectrometer. This system incorporates the brightest ion source, a segmented quadrupole mass filter with improved selectivity and ion transmission, Advanced Vacuum Technology for improved ion transmission to the Thermo Scientific Orbitrap mass analyzer, and ETD HD, a higher-capacity ETD fragmentation.

The latest innovations include the Advanced Peak Determination (APD) algorithm for improved data-dependent experiments and two new hardware options: UVPD, a new fragmentation technique achieved with a 213 nm UV laser and 1M, which provides 1,000,000 FWHM ultra-high resolution for improved structural elucidation and quantitation of isobaric compounds.

The newest Tribrid instrument takes advantage of the combination of a brighter ion source, segmented quadrupole, improved ion transmission and improved ETD performance. It is based on the Orbitrap Fusion platform and contains new hardware and software features specifically developed to improve performance in the most challenging applications in biological research areas, including proteomics, metabolomics and biopharma. They include, but are not limited to:

  • A brighter ion source provided by a High Capacity Transfer Tube and an Electrodynamic Ion Funnel for increased sensitivity
  • Advanced Active Ion Beam Guide for improved robustness
  • Segmented quadrupole powered by Advanced Quadrupole Technology for improved precursor ion selection and transmission
  • Advanced Vacuum Technology for improved vacuum in the C-trap and Orbitrap regions resulting in improved ion transfer to the Orbitrap mass analyzer
  • ETD HD (High Definition ETD) incorporating a higher capacity ion-ion reaction for improved dynamic range of ETD spectra

Trap sensitivity:

2 μL of a 50 fg/μL solution of reserpine (100 femtograms total) injected at a flow of 500 μL/min will produce a minimum signal-to-noise ratio of 200:1 for the transition of the isolated protonated molecular ions at m/z 609 to the largest two product ions, m/z 397 and m/z 448, when the mass spectrometer is operated at unit resolution in the full scan MS/MS mode, m/z 165 - 615. The test requires HESI III probe.
